HVCC Newsletter July 2023

Welcome to our latest e-Newsletter. This year, we are highlighting the importance of caring for our community, our health, our minds, and our environment. During these challenging times, we recognise the profound impact that simple acts of care can have, whether directed towards ourselves or others.

In this edition, we delve into the ways in which the centre supports caring for our minds. Nurturing community connections lies at the heart of our mission, and in fostering a sense of belonging and support, whether through the diverse hirers we host, the engaging events we organise, or the meaningful initiatives we champion, we hope to create a strong sense of mental wellbeing for our community.

While we have you… Saturday 8 July is the Crouch End Festival and Hornsey Vale is hosting food stalls out the front, a bar in the Main Hall and free activities 11:30am-4pm. Read more here.

Overcoming challenges: exploring the benefits of counselling

The thought of speaking to a stranger about some of your deepest thoughts and feelings is hard even for the boldest extrovert among us. We asked two counsellors who work at Hornsey Vale for their best advice for people considering counselling.

Mental health awareness with Haringey Talking Therapies

On Friday 14 July at 10.30, Haringey Talking Therapies will host a workshop on mental health awareness at the centre.

Find out more about what it will cover.

Get moving to lift your mood

For trained exercise tutor Val Forsyth, getting people moving at Hornsey Vale Community Centre’s monthly Lunch Club has been an uplifting experience. Val talks to us about the connection between movement and mood.

Focus on hirers

We’ve recently welcomed new hirer Helen Sanganoo. Helen has launched twice weekly small group fitness sessions for women aged 40 and over. She’s combining circuit-based exercise with general diet and wellbeing guidance, and welcomes women of all ages and fitness levels. Mon & Thurs 10:30-11:30. Bookings essential: 07886 623 938.
