Have fun with your wardrobe with our autumn clothing swap fundraiser
On Saturday 12 October from 2-4pm, Hornsey Vale Community Centre will host its inaugural clothing swap to raise funds for a much needed project—improving acoustics in our Main Hall.
The Main Hall hosts a number of events which support the centre, from our annual Christmas Fair to children’s parties, choir practice to performances. This project will help to reduce echo and reverberation and make the space more enjoyable for all.
What is a clothing swap?
Many of us have clothes we no longer need, wear, want or fit into. A clothing swap is a fun way to exchange these clothes with new styles brought by other participants. It’s also a great way to support sustainable fashion, the circular economy, and to meet other people in your community interested in the same.
All you need to do is bring a few items of clothes which you are happy to give away. No money is exchanged aside from your entry fee (if applicable) at the door or for some food or drink during the event. Leftover clothes will be donated to Traid, which has a collection point at Hornsey Vale.
How will it work?
First…
Review your wardrobe to find a minimum of five items and a maximum of ten items that are in good or excellent condition. They can include clothes, shoes, or accessories.
Keep the season in mind – think coats, jumpers, shirts, warm trousers, scarves, etc. Men and women’s clothing only please, no children’s items (we may do a children’s focused event in the future.)
Think of items that you’d be happy to give to a fashionable friend or stylish family member – so no underwear or items that need repair!
Then …
Drop off your clothes at the centre on Friday, October 11 between 4 and 6pm for free entry to the event.
Alternatively, you can bring your clothes an hour before the event and pay a £2 entry fee. Or if you don’t want to bring anything to the swap, pay £5 for entry alone.
Why not invite a friend or two to join? (Especially the one whose wardrobe contents you have been eyeing…)
Lastly…
Join us on October 12 from 2-4pm to try on different clothes, get fashion advice from your neighbours, and take some new items home!
And PS… please do get in touch if you would like to volunteer, or if you could loan us clothes rails or coat hangers.
